Position Overview

Are you a senior-level engineer with deep experience in back end programming languages and relational databases? Do you provide strong attention to detail, and uphold high standards of execution? ShootProof is a small team of photographers, designers, engineers, perfectionists, and customer service fanatics providing gorgeous online galleries and other sales solutions to retail photographers worldwide; and we’re seeking an energetic, passionate Back-End Software Architect to develop cutting-edge services, build products accessed by millions of users, write maintainable code, and collaborate on products that extend beyond the desktop to touch interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

As a Back-End Software Architect, you will:

  • Work within a cross-functional Scrum team of user experience designers, visual designers, engineers, and QA engineers to deliver complete, working software
  • Participate in regular Scrum events, such as daily Scrum, retrospectives, sprint planning, and backlog refinement
  • Architect performant, scalable solutions using PHP, Amazon Web Services, and other appropriate technologies
  • Design and implement RESTful API endpoints for consumption by a variety of client applications
  • Interpret wireframes and visual designs to inform the architecture of the product being built
  • Collaborate with other senior-level developers to plan an architecture that is both modular and reusable at an appropriate level
  • Lead discussions and efforts around coding standards and internal best practices as the team’s needs evolve
  • Triage production issues at times, then design and optimize back end implementations as needed
Experience and Requirements

A Back-End Software Architect will have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a senior-level engineer
  • 2+ years in a technical lead or similar role
  • 7+ years of deep experience with one or more back end programming languages, such as PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, etc.
  • Deep familiarity with relational databases, including schema design, writing complex queries, use of stored procedures, triggers, etc.
  • A proven track record of architecting complex web applications with successful delivery and deployment
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests
  • Experience with considerations that arise in highly-trafficked web environments, such as database query optimization, use of caching and content delivery networks, etc.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or similar
  • Working knowledge of front end development practices in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Experience using version control software
  • Experience with peer code review practices, such as use of GitHub Pull Requests
  • Experience working with issue and task management software, such as Atlassian Jira or similar
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and the highest standards of execution
  • A proven, demonstrable ability to manage your time, deliver on your commitments, and hold yourself accountable

Senior Back-End Engineer

Our Senior Back-End Engineer will have:

  • Work with our Quality Assurance team to formulate test plans and automated tests as needed
  • Triage production issues at times, then design and optimize back end implementations as needed

Requirements

Our Senior Front-End Engineer will have:

  • A solid understanding of best practices for HTML5/JS/CSS
  • Experience with AngularJS is preferred
  • Experience with CSS and pre-processors (Less, Sass, etc.)
  • Experience with concerns in highly-trafficked environments (CDNs, use of minification, etc.)
  • Experience with moderately complex code bases
  • Decision-making abilities writing code to balance meeting requirements, while being modular and reusable when appropriate
  • Experience using version control software
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and the highest standards of execution
  • Varied digital experience including mobile, tablet, and desktop
  • Experience working with SVGs is a plus
  • A working understanding of server-side implementation details; the more experience the better
  • Ability to self-organize, manage their own time, and ultimately meet deliverables

Senior User Experience Researcher

ShootProof is looking for an experienced and driven Sr User Experience Researcher to join our team full-time in our Atlanta office.

The ideal candidate is mid-senior level in their UX research career and is looking to continue their career growth. This is a hands-on role, often juggling multiple projects at once.

A “typical” day as a UX Researcher with our team might include:

  • Designing and conducting discovery research into complex problems and potential features to glean insights to help prioritize projects and hone effective solutions.
  • Planning, recruiting participants for, and moderating concept research and/or usability testing for mobile and desktop devices.
  • Initiating and managing cross-functional collaboration throughout research activities.
  • Analyzing research findings and translating them into valuable insights for the team.
  • Assembling findings reports and read-out presentations to share broadly with stakeholders.
  • Formulating and documenting UX research best practices and communicating those with the rest of the organization.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Human Factors or HCI as a researcher, analyst, or similar role in a software or agency environment (preferably on SaaS solutions).
  • A degree in behavioral science, a related field or equivalent professional experience. These fields may include but are not limited to Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Interface Design, or Computer Science.
  • Experience designing surveys, writing discussion guides, moderating interviews, analyzing data, translating findings into frameworks & recommendations, and presenting your work.
  • Experience facilitating research studies on multiple form factors (desktop, tablet, mobile, etc.)

Things that would put you over the top:

  • You’re a photographer, either professional or amateur, or have experience in the photography industry.
  • Practical knowledge of behavioral analytics and the ability to convey their meaning and importance to a project team.

Senior User Experience Designer

  • Work closely with developers to ensure your designs are realized as envisioned.
  • Mentor less experienced team members or others in the organization about the UX process and help them decide on the best approach to solving a problem.

  • Worked successfully in an agile environment.
  • Experience conducting design thinking or related design workshops in a lean UX environment.
  • Experience working in Sketch/Zeplin, Invision, Figma or Adobe CC.
